A Walk Through A Rain Forest

The Hoh rain forest was our grand escape from horrible heat without air conditioning. The weather her was perfect. The morning fog and ocean haze literally cleared up right as we pulled into the parking lot. I have wanted to take my parents here for a long time. They are travelers and kind of collectors of places. The only problem is that it is so far away. Really the best way to see the sights of the Olympic Peninsula is to do so camping. Big problem though. My Mom does NOT camp. (Her idea of camping as she puts it is staying in a Motel 6. But the idea of seeing something so cool gave her the courage to try camping. More on that later....)
So here we are walking through mossy corridors of spooky looking trees. You know the saying "moss grows on the north side of a tree" you would die in Washington if that was the only survival advice you had. Moss grows all over trees here. I guess you would have to look for which side it grows the thickest on.
The kids had a great time climbing on logs, trying to find fish, fighting over which girl got to hold Grandma's hand with the watch (don't ask...I have no idea), trying to sneak off the trail and posing for me to take pictures. The best part of all though, other than being with Grandma and Grandpa naturally, was knowing that we were hours away from the horrible, sticky heat that had taken our home hostage!

Jenny,
I just love your opening shot of all the green moss, what a beautiful place.

Maybe it's a watch I haven't seen, like one from Tiffany's with diamonds and they were trying to pry them off...
